Reporting to Parents under the Early Years Learning Framework

EYLF learning outcomes

Use this EYLF Educators’ Guide on how to use TopFormz for reporting to parents under the Early Years Learning Framework Outcomes.

The TopFormz digital technology platform has been built to incorporate the Early Years Learning Framework and National Quality Standards in:

1. The Educational Program

The educational program enables family day care educators to plan using either a weekly or activity based template which is linked to the Early Years Learning Framework Outcomes and the National Quality Standards. Educators are able to select from a 4-5 column template which can be sent to parents via email or posted to a closed Facebook Group or portal.

2. Daily Reports to Parents

Family Day Care Educators can use the About My Day or Observation forms to prepare daily reports to parents. The About My Day Report includes a brief description of the child’s day in care, toileting requirements, food and drinks, activities of the day and naptimes. Educators can select from a range of different templates. All of these templates are linked to both the Early Years Learning Framework Outcomes and the National Quality Standards. As these daily reports to parents are recorded they are summarised by the TopFormz digital technology platform into a Summative Assessment. This Summative Assessment is evidence of the children’s learning over time. The Summative Assessment includes a graphical representation by outcome of the Early Years Learning Framework and the National Quality Standards.

The Observation templates are generally used for group observations. Individual About My Day Reports will capture key learning outcomes for the day by individual child. As a result these observation templates do not include a summary of the EYLF learning outcomes met.

3. EYLF Developmental Milestones

As family day care educators we are required to assess the learning and development of the children in care against the EYLF Developmental Milestones. These are included in TopFormz by different stages of development based on defined age groups under the Early Years Learning Framework. Educators will assess their children in care and document the outcomes observed as well as any areas of development under the Early Years Learning Framework and National Quality Standards. These EYLF Developmental Milestone Assessments can then be sent to parents via email.

4. Reflections

Family Day Care Educators can link their reflections to the Early Years Learning Framework Outcomes or the National Quality Standards. Educators document their provate and confidential reflections in a separate Reflections area. Reflections that family day care educators wish to communicate to parents can be shared in either About My Day Reports or Observations.
