Quality Area 1 – Educational Program and Practice

How can TopFormz contribute to your Educational Program and Practice?

Before we can explore how TopFormz can contribute to your Educational Program and Practice we need to understand which National Quality Standards are covered in Quality Area 1. This includes:

1.1. Program: The educational program enhances each child's learning and development

Each child’s learning and development is enhanced through the following elements of Quality Area 1:

1.1.1 Approved Learning Frameworks

Each child’s learning is directed, assessed and documented in accordance with Approved Learning Frameworks i.e. the Early Years Learning Framemork, My Time, Our Place and the National Quality Standards. Summative assessments track outcomes achieved by each child under these approved learning frameworks.

1.1.2 Child-centred

About My Day Reports, Observations, EYLF Developmental Milestone Assessments and Reflections enable family day care educators to record how each child’s current knowledge, strengths, ideas, culture, abilities and interests form the foundation of their learning and development.

1.1.3 Program Learning Opportunities

About My Day Report, Observations, Reflections and EYLF Developmental Milestone Assessments enable Educator’s to reflect on each child’s learning and development and to organise and facilitate each child’s learning in an Educational Program which can be shared with families. The Educational Program is linked to planned learning outcomes from the Early Years Learning Framework, My Time, Our Place and the National Quality Standards.

1.2 Practice: Educators facilitate and extend each child's learning and development

Each child’s learning and development is facilitated and extended by the following elements of Quality Area 1:

1.2.1 Intentional Teaching

1.2.2 Responsive teaching and scaffolding

1.2.3 Child directed learning

Family daycare educators reflect on each child’s learning and development and record planned opportunities for intentional teaching, responsive teaching and scaffolding or child directed learning in their Educational Program. Programming Codes are used to distinguish between different types of learning opportunities or experiences. Observations relating to times where family day care educators have facilitated or extended a child’s learning and development through intentional teaching, responsive teaching and scaffolding or child directed learning is recorded in a combination of About My Day Reports, Observations and/or Reflections. The same programming codes are used to distinguish between different types of learning opportunities or experiences.

1.3 Assessment and Planning : Educators and co-ordinators take a planned and reflective approach to implementing the program for every child

A planned and reflective approach is adopted for each child’s educational program through the following elements of Quality Area 1:

1.3.1 Assessment and planning cycle

1.3.2 Critical reflection

1.3.3 Information for families

Each child’s learning and development is assessed and evaluated through:

  • Learning Dashboards which reflect a summary of the About My Day Reports generated through TopFormz
  • EYLF Developmental Milestone Assessments
  • Regular observations recorded in About My Day Reports or Observation Reports
  • Reflections which are categorised by Child and Main Category of Reflections e.g. Child Led, Documentation, Parent Input, Physical Environment, Scheme Input, Sustainability, Incidents, Other. This enables Educators’ to analyse the results by child and to track the progress of each reflection.
